Altra Olympus 5
This shoe is a favourite of those who enjoy running long distances on technical trails. It offers the best balance of cushioning and protection for the longest runs. It uses Altra’s Zero Drop design and a rounded FootShape toe box that promotes better alignment and function in your feet.
It also features a breathable engineered mesh upper and grippy Vibram Megagrip outsole for stability on technical terrain. Its size and weight may be too much for those who want a handy option for shorter efforts.
The Olympus 5 is excellent for running ultra-marathons or long-distance hiking excursions. It is also available in a GTX version for added weather protection.

Unlike other Hoka-style max cushion shoes, the Olympus 4.0 is a regular shoe. Its soft sole absorbs sharp rocks while providing excellent traction and stability. Its compression moulded EVA foam midsole and 33-mm stack height offer a comfortable ride. The shoes also feature a secure lacing system and a new thin gusseted tongue that prevents your foot from sliding inside the shoe.
Altra Olympus 3.5
The VIA Olympus 5 is the most cushioned shoe in Altra’s lineup, designed for runners who want to churn out long-distance miles without worrying about their feet. Its maximum-cushion platform, wide toe box and zero drop geometry make it an excellent choice for pronators. The 3.5 update adds more support and stability with a breathable, durable upper, printed mountain graphics, and a 4-point gaiter trap. The midsole is more flexible and responsive with the addition of InnerFlex and a 2mm reduction in stack height.

They are a stable platform with grippy Vibram soles, a gradual posterior lateral heel slope and a foot-shaped toe box that allows your toes to splay and push off naturally.
Altra Olympus 1.0
After a couple of iterations, the Altra Olympus 1.0 finally has the traction necessary to be helpful as a trail running shoe. The cushioning is still excellent, and the shoe is pretty hefty at 11 ounces for a men’s size 9. It is offered in Original Fit, which gives plenty of room for natural foot splay.
